Our experience in Z Festival: a day surrounded by pop music
(Written by Beatriz Moraes and Larissa Bomfim)

Z Festival barely had started and most of fans were almost dying. That’s not just because of the sun, the hot weather or the gigantic line that was crossing streets. It was all emotion’s fault. In this year’s edition, the guests brought a wave of admirers who filled the big Allianz Parque with dance and tears. The stadium, which have capacity to almost 48 thousand spectators at concerts, weren’t big enough to their need to jump, shout and sing along. Today, we’ll bring you inside the Z Festival, that happened on December 10th, and show all the details about the event!
2010 feelings with Manu Gavassi
The pink fur coat was the first thing I’ve noticed when Manu Gavassi entered the stage. Matching it with sunglasses and shorts just proved the day was almost 35 degrees. She started at 4 p.m, following the schedule and seemed to be very happy to be there, thanking the festival for inviting her and thanking who was there to see her. Lenses reflecting the crowd and an extraordinary willpower to jump in that unbearable heat were her mark at the event.
The sweet voice get along with her personality and lyrics. Singing about falling in love or breaking up, the songs called all the teenage girls inside, especially when she started “Planos Impossíveis”, her major 2010 success.
During the show, Manu made a lot of covers, including a not typical Selena Gomes and Justin Bieber’s mashup (what a combination, right?). Everybody sang along, dancing with “Sorry” and “Hands to Myself” — and is important to remember that Selena was supposed to made the show, but her participation had to be canceled because her health problem with Lúpus. Manu also sang Love Yourself, other Justin Bieber song, and the fans loved.
“I could write a thousand lyrics to you, could say all my reasons to like so much about you…” all the stadium sang along and, even with many empty seats, the song echoed through the air. In that moment, Manu Gavassi was glowing, almost crying with the emotion. It was the great climax of her show.
However she brought one of her oldest single, the public was expecting her to sing another one: “Garoto Errado”, also launched at 2010. The disappointment only came when she finished the concerts, ignoring the crew begging this song. Anyway, the show was great, and exceeded expectations.
The electro’s time
Cheat Codes came all way from Los Angeles to introduce Z festival to their sound. The group of DJs is composed by Trevor Dahl, Kevin Ford, and Matthew Russell, and started in 2014. The Cheat Codes guys has a unique style, not just the way they dress, but the way they shook the audience.
The truth was that just few band songs were known: the famous “Sex” and a newest one, “Let Me Hold You”. Knowing this, they repeated those songs during the show. But it worked: the fans jump all over the stadium, and enjoyed the beats.
And it didn’t stop on their own musics: the DJs played hits like “This is What you Came For”, from Calvin Harris and Rihanna, besides other classics, as a remix of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, from Nirvana. Everybody got into the vibe, turning the Allianz almost in a club.
Tiago, I loved to see you!
Tiago Iorc’s beauty and charm made all the crowd fall for him. Boys and girls sang the romantic songs and screamed through their lungs how handsome - and hot - the guy is. Different from the electronic music that cheered everybody up, Tiago’s main instrument was a guitar and his voice.
“Amei de ver” started and finished the concert: I don’t have to say that That the choir was high. The crown cried and got excited with other success from him, like “Alexandria”, “Chega pra Cá”, and his new one with Sandy, named “Me Espera”. Tiago’s sympathy took even who wasn’t a fan yet to madness.
For almost 2 hours he was in the stage by himself and the public was wild, recognizing the lyrics and singing along. Beliving or not, man has conquered thousands of people, even being alone on stage.
He didn’t sing only his own songs: there was a dramatic “Hallelujah”’s cover (I bet that almost everybody cried at this part). When he made a cover of Anitta’s “Bang”, no one could keep quiet. Felt like a preparation for what was coming, as Anitta was almost next on the festival’s schedule and the slow version made everybody crazy with his sexy glances and voice. WHAT A MAN!
Say PRO-JO-TA
Projota was in charge to bring the rap to the stage. And he did it well. “Focus, strength and faith” is his motto and he is one of the greatest representation of the Brazillian hip hop culture.
With his lyrics and spirit, they made theirs fans happy singing famous hits. “Mulher” calm down after the agitated raps.“O Homem Que Não Tinha Nada” was a touching part of the show; the voices followed the story of Josué and the mood was a reflection one. After this song, Projota did a homage to his co-singer. “You should make a solo CD”, he said, while she was laughing.
They played songs like “Cobertor” and “Faz Parte”, which were made in partnership with Anitta. The stadium sang with energy in the chest, knowing all the lyrics, and followed his instructions to jump, shout "Projota" or accompany some sound.
With his upcoming success “Ela só quer paz”, Projota end the concert with energy. Everyone enjoyed it, despite the fatigue and anxiety about the main attractions that would still come.
Did you think that I wasn’t gonna shake my ass today?
Anitta was glowing. From the moment she entered in the stage and started singing to the end, it was a show. The songs made the public dance even with the space between them was minimum. With her fame rising, the expectations was really high and she handled everything in an amazing way, because it was just fantastic.
Bang, bang! That woman shot us with her charisma on stage and her incredible dance ability. No one could stand still or be discouraged during the spectacle made by Anitta. Successes like “Deixa ele Sofrer”, “Meiga e Abusada” and “Essa Mina é Louca” were sung, accompanied by the excited audience. “Sim ou Não”, her new hit, made almost everyone dance with her and sang along. Anitta repeated some songs which had already been covered on other shows — “Cobertor” and “Bang”, for instance. At the end of the concert, couldn’t miss the famous “Show das Poderosas”, with the choreography being imitated by all there. The Anitta dancers were a show apart, surprising everyone with their talent and rhythm.
And the time everybody wanted to see live happened: “Did you think that I wasn’t gonna shake my ass today?”, Anitta said. “I am very happy to be here today. My biggest dream was to bring funk music to a lot of people, to play funk at stadiums and today, I did it”, she continued before starting to dance and played major funk successes as “Baile de Favela, “Tá tranquilo, tá favorável” and a lot of other funk beats. The audience went wild, screaming, dancing and watching the dancer’s moves at the same time was almost impossible. Anitta managed to turn a 1-hour-and-a-half-concert in a funk music party and a lot of shaking assess.
What’s wrong with being confident?
Demi Lovato showed all her confidence as entering the Z festival stage among the audience screams and tears. The most expected attraction of the night knew what she meant to all 48 thousand people there. Her face showed nothing but happiness.
This is Demi’s 4th time in Brazil and, despite her story and problems, that concert was so far the best one. Recently, she was nominated to a Grammy and some fans brought papers with the saying “YOU DID IT #GRAMMYs”, making hersmile. “Fuck, yeah!”, she said in return, celebrating the nomination and her biggest dream coming true. In that night we could tell she was very proud of herself - and her fans - and was having a blast. Demi had fun, and also didn’t forget to risk a “gringo’s portuguese”, saying “Tudo bom?” and “Eu amo você, Brasil” during the concert.
It was obvious that everybody was waiting this moment. The expectation was huge, and when she came on stage, the Allianz exploded. Although many sad songs have shaken the emotional state of most fans, there was no lack of animation and harmony with the singer. Starting with “Confident” and singing beloved news hits like “Body Say” and “Stone Cold”, Demi didn’t disappoint at all, making one of her best performances on brazilian soil.
“This is real, this is me! I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be”, all the audience were singing. The setlist wasn’t made just with musics of her new album. “Don’t Forget”, “Catch Me”, “Give Your Heart a Break” and “Skyscraper” weren’t forgotten either by her or her fans, who shouted vividly. “Cool for the Summer” was the last one; the mood was one of happiness, but also of an early missing, as Demi plans to pause her artistic career now in 2017.
